          Short biography on Gautam Buddha

   Gautam Buddha was born in Lumbini zone of Nepal about 2500 years ago. He was the son of king Suddhodhan and mother Queen Mayadevi. The real name of Gautam Buddha is Siddhartha Gautam. Gautam Buddha was the name given to him after he got the enlightenment . He is the founder of Buddhism, one of the religions of our nation. He is well known as the 'light of Asia'.

    Siddhartha Gautam was the prince and could enjoy every kind of comforts and pleasures  in the royal stage. But he disliked these all royal facilities. In his early childhood days, he was quite, clam and soft-spoken child. At the age of sixteen he was married to a beautiful princess called Yashodhara. This couple had a so  named Rahul.

     One day, Siddhartha Gautam requested his charioters to go out of palace compound. His eyes fell on a sick man, an old man and a dead body. These three sights bothered him a lot and forced him to find the solution of these all in human life . For the solution, he abandoned his parents, his beloved wife and dear son Rahul. He too left palace and went in search of truth. He wanted to be free from misery. He reached Gaya, sat under the peepal tree and meditated sitting legged. At last, he attained supreme knowledge i.e he got enlightenment. Then he started preaching people about truth. People started calling him by Gautam Buddha. He preached his first sermon at Sarnath. His preaching becomes the norms of religion called Buddhism. His followers are called as Buddhists.

     Followers of Buddhism can be found in great number in Nepal and abroad today. He preached his teachings for about 45 years and died at kushinagar at the age of 80. His religion has emphasised to maintain peace in the world and to avoid the evils forever. Gautam Buddha is the National Luminary of our nation.
